James Marshall Napier was born on 22 October 1951 in Lower Hutt, New Zealand. He was a character and stage actor, playwright, and graphic artist.
He went to school at the Hutt Valley High School and then went to Wellington Polytechnic to study graphic design for a year. He had worked as a laborer, factory hand, and truck driver before venturing into acting.
Napier’s first professional acting job was with the Wellington Downstage Theatre in 1975. He is the uncle of renowned film director He is the uncle of film director James Napier Robertson.
Napier has played several supporting roles for film and television shows in Australia, where he relocated to from New Zealand in pursuit of an acting career.
