Michael Degen was a German-Israeli actor. He was a film and theater actor, theater director and writer.
Born in Chemnitz as the son of Jewish parents, Degen survived as a child the Holocaust at Berlin. His father, Jacob Degen, a language professor and businessman, was detained in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp.
In 1940, his father passed away shortly after his release as a result of the torture. In order to stay survive, his mother Anna and son Michaelhid in an arbor colony until the end of the war.
It was in 1946 that Degen made his debut on the stage. He gained his training via a grant at the acting academy of the Deutsches Theater in East Berlin.
In 1949, he immigrated from Israel over two and a half years. Degen was an army soldier in Israel and also performed in theaters in Tel Aviv.
