Michael Arthur Norman Jr was born on 3 December 1997 to an African-American father and a Japanese mother in San Diego, California. He is an American track and field athlete who specializes in 400 meters sprints.
Norman attended Vista Murrieta in Murrieta where as a junior he broke the NFHS record in the 400 meters. He was named the Gatorade Player of the Year on 30 June 2015 for his feats in track and field.
Norman competed at the college level for the University of Southern California’s Trojan. He was the first USC Trojan to win f The Bowerman award; a feat he chalked in 2018.
He turned professional in 2018 and is currently being coached by Quincy Watts and Caryl Smith Gilbert, and is signed with Nike.
Norman is the current 400-meter world champion; having won gold at the 2022 World Championships held in Oregon.
