Mitchell Ryan was an American film, television, and stage actor, who during his 60 years of television, was best known for his character Burke Devlin in the 1960s gothic soap drama Dark Shadows, and later for his role as Thomas Gibson’s dad Edward Montgomery on Dharma & Greg.

The actor also played evil general Peter McAllister in the 1987 buddy cop action film Lethal Weapon.

Ryan was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States, on January 11, 1934, and was raised in Louisville, Kentucky. He was the son of a novelty salesman. He was in the United States Navy during the Korean War.

After the Korean War, he went to the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia and began his career as an actor in Thunder Road together with the theater’s creator Robert Porterfield.

He died on March 4, 2022, at his home in Los Angeles at age 88.
