Nafissatou “Nafi” Thiam was born on 19 August 1994 in Brussels, Belgium.
She is a Belgian athlete who is a multi-event specialist.
Thiam at the tender age of seven had begun taking part in athletics and by age 14 she had won her first national age group title in 2009. Her role model was Swedish heptathlete Carolina Kluft. She is currently being coached by Roger Lespagnard.
Thiam has a bachelor’s degree in geography from the University of Liège.
She is a member of the Royal Football Club Liège Athlétisme.
She is a two-time Olympic gold medallist and the only Belgian athlete, of either sex, to defend an Olympic title successfully. She is also the second woman after Jackie Joyner-Kersee to win back-to-back Olympic titles in the heptathlon.
Thiam is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF Belgium.
