NDC Congress: Asiedu Nketia Floors Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo To Emerge National Chairman

Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the former general secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), caused a major upset when he totally floored Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo to take over as the party’s new national leader.

After serving as General Secretary for 17 years, Mr Nketia made the decision to run for chairman and on Saturday, December 17, 2022, in the Accra Sports Stadium he received 65.17% of the vote to defeat the incumbent Ofosu Ampofo ay the 2022 National Delegates Congress of the Party.

Also, Mr Fifi Kwetey won the general secretary slot with 4,543 votes beating Elvis Afriyie Ankrah (1,408) and Dr Peter Boamah Otokunor (2,595).

In other contests, Mr Joseph Yammin beat the incumbent Joshua Akamba and five others to win the slot with 3,730 votes as against Mr Akamba’s 2,035 votes to win the National Organiser slot.

Mr Sammy Gyamfi was retained as the party’s national communications officer. The party held contests to fill the national youth organiser and women’s organiser roles last weekend.

With 533 votes, Mr. George Opare Addo defeated his lone opponent, Brogya Genfi, who received 508 votes, to win the position of youth organizer.

Additionally, Margaret Ansei, the only other woman running for women’s organizer, lost to Dr. Hanna Louisa Bissiw by 433 votes.
