Nicki Minaj was born Onika Tanya Maraj on 8 December 1982 in Saint James, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.
She is a Trinidadian-born rapper, singer, and songwriter.

Minaj moved to the United States when she was five years old to join her parents who had already moved there.
She attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.

After graduating, Minaj ventured into acting; she was cast in the Off-Broadway play In Case You Forget. She also did several jobs to keep her soul and body together. Some jobs included customer service representative, waitress, and office manager.

Minaj was part of the Full Force group The Hoodstars that recorded WWE Diva Victoria’s entry song Don’t Mess With. She left the group and began promoting her works on MySpace and was subsequently discovered by Dirty Money Entertainment CEO Fendi.

On 5 July 2007 she released her first mixtape, Playtime Is Over.
Her breakthrough album Pink Friday was released on 19 November 2010.

Robert Maraj and Carol Maraj are the parents of Nicki Minaj.
Robert and Carol are both originally from Trinidad.
