Johnson Smith, who happens to be Asante Kotoko’s assistant coach has stated categorically that most of the players do not deserve to play for the Kumasi-based football club.
According to him, he would have sacked many and kept only four, whom he believes deserve to continue playing for the club if management allowed him.
“If I m to be allowed to do my own recruitment and assessment with this current Kotoko team, only four of the current players excluding the goalkeepers will stay,” Johson Smith said.
In the same interview with Smith said players ‘unserious attitude cost the club the Ghana Premier League title.
“The attitude of the players towards training at a point in time did not help us, especially after losing to Heart of Oak. I needed to speak to them, advise some of them to approach training with seriousness,” Smith told Westgold Radio.
Kotoko also failed to capture the MTN FA Cup, as they exited the competition in the last four. That means, their season ended without a trophy.
As a reminder, Kotoko finished second behind Hearts of Oak in the just ended Ghana Premier League. Also, Kotoko lost the MTN FA Cup. That means, their season ended without a trophy.
