Padma Lakshmi was born on September 1, 1970, in Madras (now Chennai), India. She is an Indian-American author, activist, model, and television host. The cooking competition program Top Chef on Bravo was hosted by Padma.
She married novelist Salman Rushdie in 2004. After living together for five years, they filed for divorce in July 2007.
She was in a relationship with billionaire Theodore J. Forstmann from 2009 until his death in 2011. During a break in her relationship with Forstmann, she had a daughter, Krishna in 2010 with businessman Adam Dell.
In 2009, 2020, and 2022, she received a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Reality Host. Padma Lakshmi has published six books.
