Pharoah Sanders was an American jazz saxophonist who passed away on September 24, 2022, at his home in Los Angeles, California, United States, at the age of 81.
The cause of his death was not revealed at the time of announcement by Luaka Bop.

The American jazz saxophonist was born on October 13, 1940, in Little Rock, Arkansas, United States. His father worked for the City of Little Rock whiles his mother worked as a cook in a school cafeteria.
Sanders, who was the only child of his parents and did not have siblings, began his musical career accompanying church hymns on clarinet.
He was a member of John Coltrane’s groups of the mid-1960s, and was known for his overblowing, harmonic, and multiphonic techniques on the saxophone, as well as his use of “sheets of sound”.
He released over 30 albums as a leader, and was described by Saxophonist Ornette Coleman as “probably the best tenor player in the world”.
