A stunning strike of Reece James and a Jorginho penalty made Chelsea consolidate their position on the top spot in the Premier League with a 3-0 victory over Newcastle, who are now be anxiously awaiting a battle to stay in the Premier League.
Chelsea were dominant in the first second half of the game at St James Park, with Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech not converting a great James cross. The ball struck the post in the first minute of the second half when Ziyech’s shot was deflected off the line and caused Karl Darlow stranded.
As their frustration was starting to get more intense, James (65) came in with the winner and smashed in a stunning strike to the back post using his left foot. Chelsea’s dominance was evident in the final scoreboard as Jorginho (81) scored the penalty following a Darlow knocked down Havertz and was the perfect way to end a successful game for Tuchel’s team that capitalized on Manchester City’s shock loss in the home fixture to Crystal Palace and Liverpool’s draw against Brighton.
There were some boos from home fans during the full-time break and their winless team in second place and now having to go to a fight to maintain the Premier League status.
