British illustrator, cartoonist, graphic novelist, and author Raymond Briggs has passed away.
He has achieved critical and popular success among adults and children.
Briggs, who was born on January 18, 1934, in Wimbledon, London, United Kingdom, is best known in Britain for his story The Snowman, a book without words whose cartoon adaptation is televised and whose musical adaptation is staged every Christmas.
Raymond Briggs died on August 10, 2022, at the age of 88.
Briggs’ family confirmed his death in a statement;
“We know that Raymond’s books were loved by and touched millions of people around the world, who will be sad to hear this news. Drawings from fans – especially children’s drawings – inspired by his books were treasured by Raymond, and pinned up on the wall of his studio.
“He lived a rich and full life and said he felt lucky to have had both his wife Jean, and his partner of over 40 years Liz in his life.”

Raymond did not have children. Although he was married for 10 years before his wife Raymond Briggs’ death in 1973, the couple did not have kids. Briggs had no child at the time of death.
