Rebecca Adlington was born on 17 February 1989 in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England.
She was a British former competitive swimmer who was a freestyle specialist.
Adlington attended The Brunts School which was a large secondary school in Mansfield. She joined the Sherwood Colliery Swimming Club where she started swimming and was subsequently selected for the Nottinghamshire County Elite Squad known as Nova Centurion.
At the 2008 Summer Olympics, Rebecca won gold medals in 400-meter and 800-meter freestyle events which led her to break the record set by Janet Evans in the 800-meter final that stood for 19 years.
Adlington is the first British swimmer to win two gold medals since 1908. She is a world championship gold medallist in 800 meters.
Adlington retired from competitive swimming at the age of 23 and has transitioned into broadcasting; she has worked for BBC TV as an expert swimming analyst.
