Richard Gordon Guindon was an American cartoonist best known for his gag panel, Guindon. Guindon’s cartoons have appeared in the Minneapolis Tribune, The Realist, and the Detroit Free Press.

Guindon was a student at the University of Minnesota in the 1950s. He drew cartoons and stories for The Minnesota Daily, as Stan Gotlieb recalled his experiences.

He began to contribute to The Nation, Playboy, Esquire, and Down Beat. Not only that, but he also contributed cartoons to Paul Krassner’s The Realist. He was also associated with Krassner’s class at The Free School.

Guindon’s most well-known work was published in The Realist in the 1960s. It contained adult-themed references about politics and current affairs.

Richard, who had been confined to a single-panel format, began a multi-panel comic strip called The Carp Chronicles in 1988. He commented, “Nothing ever works out in Carp City. I don’t know why. They’re very nice people. It’s not a pretty story, but it has to be told.”

Guindon retired in 2005, and lived in Northern Michigan’s Suttons Bay during his last years.
