Ruxandra Dumitrescu competed in the top-tier league for Dacia Piteşti before moving to Greece, where she served as the captain of Panathinaikos Athens and represented Greece as their standout player during the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
In a tribute to her contribution, the Greek volleyball community retired the number 9 jersey when she announced her retirement from the sport.
Returning to Romania, she transitioned into coaching at Alpha Volleyball Sibiu, a private club. Sadly, she passed away on Sunday night, leaving behind a lasting legacy. Romanian volleyball officials shared their condolences, stating, “We will honor her memory forever. Rest easy on your journey to the stars, Ruxi Dumitrescu!”

Ruxandra Dumitrescu passed away due to cardiac arrest, following a reported heart attack. “She returned to Romania and was a coach at Alpha Volleyball Sibiu, a private club. Unfortunately, her heart stopped Sunday night, forever. We will keep his memory alive! Smooth road to the stars, Ruxi Dumitrescu!”, a statement from the Romanian volleyball officials.
