Serena Jameka Williams is the American professional tennis player who was born on September 26, 1981, in Saginaw, Michigan, United States.

Williams has been ranked singles world No. 1 by the Women’s Tennis Association for 319 weeks, including a joint-record 186 consecutive weeks, and finished as the year-end No. 1 five times.

She has been awarded the record-breaking 23 Grand Slam singles titles, the highest number of titles won by any tennis player during the Open Era, and the second-highest number of titles in all time (behind Margaret Court’s 24 titles).

She took the first title of her career in singles in her first major singles title at the 1999 US Open.

From 2002’s French Open to the 2003 Australian Open, she was dominating and won the four major singles titles (each time beating Venus at the end of each) to complete a non-calendar year Grand Slam and the career Grand Slam, known as the “Serena Slam”.

The following years saw her take home two more majors in singles, however, she suffered from injuries and declining form.

In 2007, she slowly returned to her former form despite a string of injuries, and was able to regain the world’s number one spot in the singles ranking.

In 2012, following the Wimbledon Championships, Williams returned to the top of the list, winning Olympic medals and became the very first player in tennis to earn the Career Golden Slam in both doubles and singles.

Williams has also taken home 14 women’s doubles major titles, which she has won together with her sister Venus, and the pair are undefeated at Grand Slam doubles finals.

This also includes a non-calendar year Grand Slam between the 2009 Wimbledon Championships and the 2010 French Open, which granted Williams and Venus the world’s No. 1 ranking.

She has earned the coveted four Olympic gold medals and three in women’s doubles, which is an all-time record that she shares along with her sister. She has also won two major mixed-doubles titles, both in 1998.

Williams is widely considered one of the greatest tennis players of all time.

They got married in 1980, and had two daughters; Venus (born on 17the of June 1980) as well as Serena (born on 26th of September 1981). The family resided in Compton, California. Richard and Oracene separated in 2002.

Richard later met the owner of a grocery store, Lakeisha Graham, who’s a year older than Venus, and they got married in 2010. They have one son. The couple divorced in the year 2017.

Williams owns a son who is from an unrelated relationship that was not part of his marriages.

In July 2016, Williams suffered a stroke. At the time, his then wife Lakeisha Williams stated that his state of health was stable. In 2022, Williams had been reported to have suffered two strokes.
