L’Equipe is reporting that La Liga side, Sevilla FC, has made a €2 million offer for Strasbourg center-back, Alexander Djiku, whose contract is due to expire at the end of the season.
The Ghanaian defender has been under the observation of the Andalusian side for a while and the offer includes bonuses that can be easily achieved and a percentage of any future sale.
The French side, however, is looking for a higher fee for the Ghana international and is not keen on losing its vice-captain.
If Djiku departs the club, he will leave a huge gap in the team’s defensive line but would also free up space on the wage bill. Strasbourg is lying 16th on the Ligue 1 league log, after escaping the drop zone with their second victory of the season after upsetting Lyon.
Sevilla is also battling relegation, currently placing 19th in La Liga. If the deal goes through, Djiku will be joining another side that is struggling to stay in its league.
The final transfer decision will be premised on Strasbourg’s ability to secure a suitable replacement and its willingness to let go of its vice-captain.
