Stacey Park Milbern Cause Of Death

Stacey Park Milbern was a Korean-American disability rights activist who was born on May 19, 1987, in Seoul, South Korea.

She helped create the disability justice movement and advocated for fair treatment of disabled people.

Milbern started in leadership positions for disability rights at the age of 16 and was also the Community Outreach Director for National Youth Leadership Network.

Later, she was the founder of North Carolina Youth Leadership Forum and Disabled Young People’s Collective to empower young people with disabilities to participate in advocacy and leadership.

The Governor of North Carolina appointed her to the North Carolina Commission for the Blind from the year 2006 to 2008 and the Statewide Independent Living Council from the year 2004 to 2010.

She was instrumental in the creation and passage of the 2007 North Carolina law that established October as ” “Disability History and Awareness Month” and required disability history curriculum to all schools.

Milbern was a part of the establishment of the disability justice movement in 2005 through her conversations with disabled queer women activists.

Stacey Park Milbern Cause Of Death

Towards the end of her life, she had health problems. Surgery to remove her fast-growing kidney cancer was postponed due to shelter-in-place orders.

Milbern died in a Stanford hospital on her 33rd birthday, May 19, 2020, due to surgical complications.
