Head coach of Ghana’s Olympic football team, the Black Meteors, Ibrahim Tanko has disclosed that it is not clear to him why striker Felix Afena-Gyan did not honor his call to play for his side in the U23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Algeria.
Ibrahim Tanko said in an interview that he had spoken to the player’s agent on multiple occasions who disclosed to him in those material moments that the player is not ready to play for the U23 team of Ghana.
The coach told the media he did the list and added Afena but he does not know why he is not here.
He added that he personally spoke to his agent about four times and he told him the boy is not ready.
It is clear coach Ibrahim Tanko wanted the services of the Italy-based forward for the U23 Africa Cup of Nations doubleheader against Algeria.
However, in the absence of Felix Afena-Gyan the team was able to beat Algeria on an aggregate of 2-1 to qualify for the tournament to be held in Morocco.
