Ex-Ghana international forward Augustine Arhinful has jumped to the defence of Black Stars head coach CK Akonnor after abysmal showing in World Cup qualifiers.
Akonnor has come under serious backlash following Ghana’s performance in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifications.
The Black Stars beat Ethiopia 1-0 last Friday in Cape Coast, but the performance of the team has faced criticism from Ghanaian fans and connoisseurs.
The uninspiring display last Friday was followed by a disappointing 1-0 defeat to South Africa on Monday.
Even though, majority of Ghanaians are calling for the head of Akonnor, Arhinful believes it’s a wrong time to dismiss the Black Stars trainer.
“This is not the best time to sack CK Akonnor, we can talk to him to improve on his performance,” Arhinful told Nhyira FM in a interview.
“We have a short period to the next round of matches.”
Ghana are currently sitting at the 2nd place on the standings and tied on three points with 3rd placed Ethiopia while South Africa lead the pack with four points.
The Black Stars face Zimbabwe in a doubleheader in October in the next round of matches.
