Thomas Partey Biography
Thomas Teye Partey is a Ghanaian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Premier League club Arsenal and the Ghana national team, Black Stars.
Partey started his career with Spanish Club Atlético Madrid back in the year 2013 before taking a loan out to Mallorca and Almeria before returning to Atlético in 2015, with which he won the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup in the year 2018.
In the year 2020, he joined Arsenal as part of a deal worth £45 million (€50 million), which made him the highest-priced Ghanaian player to ever play.
The Ghanaian player represented his national team in three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments. He was named to the CAF Team of the Year in the year 2018, and was awarded Ghana Player of the Year awards in the year 2018 and in 2019.

He was born on June 13, 1993 in Krobo Odumase, a town and capital of Lower Manya Krobo Municipal District in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
Club Career
Atlético Madrid: Thomas Partey was a member of Odometah’s local club’s youth team. He joined Atlético Madrid in the year 2011 and was later transferred to the reserve squad one year later. On the 10th of March 2013 Partey got a chance to join the team for the game with Real Sociedad. But, he was not used during the final loss at home, 0-1.
Mallorca and Almería: On the 12th of July, Partey was loaned to Mallorca who had just been relegated to the second division. On August 18 when he made his professional debut in a loss of 0-4 against Sabadell, Partey made his debut goal in professional football on September 15, scoring the second goal for his side in the draw against Hercules.
Partey became a member of La Liga club Almeria on loan on July 27, 20. His debut was in the tournament on August 23rd, kicking off with a 1-1 draw against Espanyol. Partey made his debut in the top division of Spanish football on the 11th of April 2015, scoring two goals in a 3-0 win at home against Granada.
Return to Atlético Madrid: Partey made his first team debut for Atlético Madrid on November 28, 2015, replacing Luciano Vietto in a 1-0 home win against Espanyol. On 2nd January next year he scored his first goal in the league at the club’s expense, scoring the only goal of the game during a home victory over Levante.
On the 28th of May it was his turn to play in the UEFA Champions League Final against Real Madrid, replacing Koke in the 116th minute, as his team lost in penalties.
Partey signed an extension to his contract to Atlético Madrid through 2022 on February 14, 2017. On the 31st of October, the striker scored his first European goal using a long-range strike that equalized at home against Qarabag with a draw 1-1 in the Champions League group game.
Partey was the very first African scoring in the tournament for Atlético. After his outstanding performance for his club, he received a reward with a new contract on March 1, 2018 which was extended to 2023. On May 16 he played during the 2017 UEFA Europa League Final, when his team won 3-1 against Marseille.
1st of September 2019, Partey was brought on as a substitute late in the game and scored the match’s winning goal during the closing minutes of the match, as Atlético returned from two goals down to prevail three goals against Eibar. Thomas celebrated with his hundredth La Liga appearance for Los Rojiblancos with a performance that was voted man-of-the match during a draw with Real Madrid in the Madrid derby just four weeks later.
Even though he left Atlético at the start of the 2020-21 campaign, Partey played enough games in the first half of the season that he was eligible for a medal of the winner in the same way that Atlético was crowned champions of La Liga that year.
Arsenal: On the 5th of October 2020, Premier League club Arsenal announced the signing of Partey on a contract that was long-term, following activation of the PS45 million (EUR50 million) release clause with Atlético Madrid. He was handed the number 18 shirt.
The number 18 jersey was taken away by Nacho Monreal in the previous season. After signing, Partey stated his desire to assist Arsenal “back where they are” and described the decision driven by “[wanting] to try new opportunities” and also credited the move to his manager Mikel Arteta as well as Technical Director Edu.
On the 17th of October 2020 Partey was made debut in the first team of arsenals as a replacement for Granit Xhaka, who was injured in an 1-1 defeat away to the League with Manchester City. International Career
In May 2016, Partey was called up for the first time to the Ghana national team by coach Avram Grant, prior to an Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against Mauritius. Partey began his career on June 5 in place of Frank Acheampong for the final 11 minutes of a 2-0 victory away which secured Ghana’s Black Stars’ position in the finals.
On the 5th of September 2017, Partey achieved his first international double, scoring a 5-1 win over Congo in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification.
Partey was picked for Kwesi Appiah’s 23-man team to play in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. In their final group match, he scored in an 2-0 win against Guinea-Bissau in the Suez Stadium as the Black Stars were the top team in their group. He scored during the penalty shoot-out at the conclusion of the last 16 match against Tunisia on the 8th of July, although the team was not eliminated.
Partey was awarded Ghana player of the year in both 2018 and in 2019. Prior to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and also qualifying to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Parte was appointed Ghana’s vice-captain.
