Thomas Teye Partey is a Ghanaian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Premier League club Arsenal and the Ghana national team, Black Stars.

Partey started his career with Spanish Club Atlético Madrid back in the year 2013 before taking a loan out to Mallorca and Almeria before returning to Atlético in 2015, with which he won the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup in the year 2018.

In the year 2020, he joined Arsenal as part of a deal worth £45 million (€50 million), which made him the highest-priced Ghanaian player to ever play.

The Ghanaian player represented his national team in three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments. He was named to the CAF Team of the Year in the year 2018, and was awarded Ghana Player of the Year awards in the year 2018 and in 2019.

He was born on June 13, 1993 in Krobo Odumase, a town and capital of Lower Manya Krobo Municipal District in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

Club Career

Atlético Madrid: Thomas Partey was a member of Odometah’s local club’s youth team. He joined Atlético Madrid in the year 2011 and was later transferred to the reserve squad one year later. On the 10th of March 2013 Partey got a chance to join the team for the game with Real Sociedad. But, he was not used during the final loss at home, 0-1.

Mallorca and Almería: On the 12th of July, Partey was loaned to Mallorca who had just been relegated to the second division. On August 18 when he made his professional debut in a loss of 0-4 against Sabadell, Partey made his debut goal in professional football on September 15, scoring the second goal for his side in the draw against Hercules.

Partey became a member of La Liga club Almeria on loan on July 27, 20. His debut was in the tournament on August 23rd, kicking off with a 1-1 draw against Espanyol. Arsenal: On the 5th of October 2020, Premier League club Arsenal announced the signing of Partey on a contract that was long-term, following activation of the PS45 million (EUR50 million) release clause with Atlético Madrid. He was handed the number 18 shirt.

On the 17th of October 2020 Partey was made debut in the first team of arsenals as a replacement for Granit Xhaka, who was injured in an 1-1 defeat away to the League with Manchester City. In May 2016, Partey was called up for the first time to the Ghana national team by coach Avram Grant, prior to an Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against Mauritius. Partey began his career on June 5 in place of Frank Acheampong for the final 11 minutes of a 2-0 victory away which secured Ghana’s Black Stars’ position in the finals.

On the 5th of September 2017, Partey achieved his first international double, scoring a 5-1 win over Congo in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification.

Partey was picked for Kwesi Appiah’s 23-man team to play in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
