Thomas Partey’s First Pre-Season Game With Arsenal Ends In Defeat To Hibernian
Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey cameod as Arsenal suffered defeat in their first pre-season friendly against Hibernian on Tuesday night.
The midfielder came on in the second half, but could not stop the Gunners from losing to the Scottish Premier League side.
English-born Ghanaian Eddie Nketiah came close to breaking the deadlock for the English giants, but his effort went wide.
But just as the London-based club failed to take their chances, Hibernian profited from a defensive mishap after Arsenal’s Arthur Okonkwo failed to pick a Cedric pass as Martin Boyle took advantage to open the scoring.
Mikel Arteta introduced Thomas Partey and Nicolas Pepe in the second half in a seven-players substitution, with the two denied by the woodwork.
Thomas Partey’s freekick from long range hit the upright as the Gunners chase an equalizer.
However, Hibernian will double their lead against the run of play, after Daniel Mackay headed in the second from a cross.
Nicolas Pepe had the chance to reduce the deficit from the spot, but his penalty was saved by the Hibbs goalie.
Emilie Rowe Smith then pulled one back for Arsenal with seven minutes remaining.
Arsenal will next face Scottish champions Rangers in another pre-season friendly.
