Timothy Eugene Scott is an American politician and entrepreneur. He has been in office since 2013 as the junior United States senator for South Carolina. Originally appointed by Governor Nikki Haley in 2013, Scott, a member of the Republican Party, successfully held onto his position by winning a special election in 2014. Subsequently, he secured a full term through election in 2016.
In 2010, Scott secured a position in the United States House of Representatives, representing South Carolina’s 1st congressional district. His tenure in the House lasted from 2011 to 2013. Before this, he had been elected for a single term (2009 to 2011) in the South Carolina General Assembly and served on the Charleston County council from 1996 to 2008.
Timothy Eugene Scott holds a notable place in history as one of eleven African-Americans who have served in the U.S. Senate. He holds the distinction of being the first African-American to serve in both chambers of Congress.
As the seventh African-American elected into the Senate and the fourth from the Republican Party, he made history as the first African-American senator representing South Carolina. Scott is also the initial African-American senator elected from the Southern United States since 1881, marking a significant milestone four years after the end of Reconstruction.
Additionally, he holds the distinction of being the first African-American Republican to serve in the U.S. Senate since Edward Brooke departed in 1979.

Tim Scott is not married and does not have a wife. However, he also expressed his desire to have a family, back in his late 40s.
In an interview with Politico Magazine back in 2018, Scott mentioned that he’d always dreamed of having six children and was hoping that his future wife would want children as well.
But, at the time, his primary concern was caring for his mother. “As a poor kid growing up, the most important thing for me to do was take care of my mom. And until I had that accomplished, starting a new family was just not an option for me,” Scott said back then.
Scott is not married, hence, there is no picture of his wife.
The Republican Senator is an evangelical Protestant. He is a member of Seacoast Church, a large evangelical church in Charleston, and a former member of the church’s board.
In the 2024 Republican Party presidential primaries, Scott entered the race, establishing an exploratory committee on April 13, 2023. Taking formal steps, he filed Federal Election Commission paperwork to officially run for president on May 19 and declared his candidacy just three days later. However, facing challenges reflected in low poll numbers, Scott decided to suspend his campaign on November 12 of the same year.
