Veteran Ghanaian comic actor, Oboy Siki has urged Ghanaians to desist from paying tithes to churches as he believes tithe is just a scheme for pastors to enrich themselves at the expense of their congregants.
While tithes were a necessity and a requirement for Jews in the Old Testament, Christians are not obligated to pay tithes as there are no Levites among us. However, some churches continue to take money tithes from their congregants in the name of worshipping God.
Adding his voice to the conversation, the Kumawood actor explained that some years ago, tithes were given to street preachers to aid their ministries. However, in today’s world, these so-called men of God pocket the money to live a better life.
“The tithe that we’re paying, in the past, it was for those that preach at the time who had no work but were only dedicated to the work of God. Now the tithe is for the pastors, they take it and spend it,” he explained.
