Trudy Haynes was an American news reporter who was born on November 23, 1926, in New York, New York, United States.

She became the nation’s first African American TV weather reporter for WXYZ-TV in Detroit in the year 1963.

She became the first African American TV news reporter for KYW-TV, in Philadelphia in 1965, where she continued until her retirement in 1999.

At the time of her death, Haynes, who received an Emmy Award as well as two Lifetime Achievement Awards during her 33-year tenure at KYW-TV, was hosting an online show called the “Trudy Haynes Show.”

Prior to her work in news and network television, Haynes in the early 1950s started with the Ophelia DeVore Charm and Modeling Agency.

DeVore was known for being among the very first people to market products to ethnic customers and to use black models in the time of racial discrimination as well as the civil rights movements.

In a 2004 interview with Contemporary Black Biography (CBB), she stated; “Modeling was just fun, I wouldn’t say it was my career ….It was just something to do on the side and because I was in New York at the time.”

As a part of DeVore, Haynes appeared in numerous advertisements, but most notable was being the very first African American to appear on the poster to promote Lucky Strike cigarettes.

She later became an instructor for students like Diahann Carroll as well as Beah Richards.

She was married to Kenyon Pinder. However, it’s unknown whether the couple had children or not, as there are no records of their kids.
