American professional basketball player Wayne Edward Yates has passed away.
Born on November 7, 1937, in North Little Rock, Arkansas, United States, Yates attended North Little Rock High School in nearby North Little Rock and played basketball for its school team.
He was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1961 NBA Draft with the fifth pick overall after finishing his college career at Memphis State.
Yates played 37 games for the Los Angeles Lakers in one National Basketball Association season from 1961 to 1962.
He later worked as a college basketball coach, most notably at Memphis State University, which is now the University of Memphis.
Wayne Yates passed away on August 16, 2022, in Natchitoches, Louisiana, at the age of 84.
