What Happened To Chika The Rapper? All you need to know about what is happening to the American rapper and nominee for Grammy Awards 2020 Best New Artist.
Jane Chika Oranika, known mononymously as Chika, is an American rapper.
The first time she was noticed was on social media before signing with Warner Records in 2019. In the next calendar year, she received the honor of being featured in the XXL’s 2020 Freshman Class, and was also nominated for the Grammy Award for Best New Artist.
Chika is a native of Montgomery, Alabama. Because of her passion for poetry and music, she went to Booker T. Washington Magnet High School.
She was accepted to the highly regarded Berklee College of Music, however, due to the high cost of tuition, she chose to attend the University of South Alabama instead. She left after her first year in order to concentrate on pursuing a career in music.
What Happened To Chika The Rapper?
Chika is currently struggling with mental health and suicidal ideation. In a lengthy statement posted to her Instagram Stories, the rapper said she’s simply looking for a different method in which to end her life.
“i went to the top of the intercontinental, but could not jump. not because i don’t want to, but because the metal stairs were scary. that’s the thing about having a fucked up brain. no matter how much pain you’re in, there will always be something holding you back. it’s draining & sad. it looks like crying wolf, but it’s not. it’s just difficult to find the right way. the quickest way. the painless way. i am tired of myself too.”
She continued, “i don’t need anyone feeling bad or worried bc i failed the last time i tried. save your emotions for when I succeed.” After describing herself as a “cautionary tale of sorts [when no one listens],” she called her potential suicide as “eternal freedom.” She ended the post with, “No more typing. i’m going to finish my drink and find a way that works. thanks for the ride, i hated it.”

However, in a recent tweet, she stated that she is safe and doing a little better.
“I am alive. I am okay. Thank you to everyone who has reached out to check-in. It’s been a very intense week. I am not retiring. After what I’ve endured in the past few days, I am not ever going to allow anything to stop me or anything to stop me or almost take me from this ghetto earth,” she tweeted.
