Joshua Shapiro is an American politician and attorney who was born on June 20, 1973, Kansas City, Missouri, United States. He has served as the 48th governor of Pennsylvania since 2023.
A member of the Democratic Party, Josh Shapiro served as the 50th Pennsylvania attorney general from 2017 to 2023 and was previously a member of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners from 2012 to 2017.

Shapiro and his wife are parents to four children and currently live in the Governor’s Residence in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Known for his observance of Conservative Judaism, Shapiro adheres to kosher dietary practices.
Beginning his career as a legislative assistant to United States Senator Carl Levin in Washington, D.C., Shapiro later ventured into local politics, running for County Commissioner in 2011.
In 2016, Shapiro successfully ran for Pennsylvania attorney general, defeating Republican John Rafferty Jr., and secured reelection in 2020. Notable achievements during his tenure include the release of a statewide grand jury report exposing child abuse by priests and subsequent cover-ups by church leaders. He also played a pivotal role in negotiating a $1 billion settlement for Pennsylvania in a nationwide opioid lawsuit.
In 2022, Shapiro campaigned for governor of Pennsylvania. He faced no opposition in the Democratic primary and secured victory in the general election by defeating Republican nominee Doug Mastriano with a 14.8 percent margin.
