Brent Renaud was an award-winning U.S.A. journalist and a filmmaker. He has worked with several media and news agencies, such as HBO, NBC as well as The New York Times.
The New York Times deputy managing editor, Cliff Levy, confirmed that Renaud was not on assignment for the publication.
Cliff Levy, in a statement shared on Twitter, read;
“We are deeply saddened to hear of Brent Renaud’s death. Brent was a talented photographer and filmmaker who had contributed to the New York Times over the years.
“Though he had contributed to The Times in the past (mostly recently in 2015), he was not on assignment for any desk at The Times in Ukraine.
“Early reports that he worked for The Times circulated because he was wearing a Times press badge that been issued for an assignment many years ago.”

Who Shot Brent Renaud?
Brent Renaud shot dead in Ukraine on March 13, 2022. He was killed by Russian forces in Irpin, Ukraine, when he was reporting.
In a tweet, Kyiv Region police identified Brent Renaud as the American journalist killed in the attack. Police uploaded a photo of his body as well as a U.S. passport as evidence, and an image of a press badge issued by The New York Times with his name on it.

Winner of the World Press Photo, Juan Arredondo, was together with U.S. documentary filmmaker Brent Renaud, who was killed during the attack. In a video filmed by a journalist who was in the hospital, Arredondo revealed the details of Renaud’s final moments alive.
“We crossed the first bridge at Irpin. We were going to film all the refugees leaving. We got into a car…someone offered to take us to the other bridge, and we crossed a checkpoint, and they started shooting at us. Then the driver turned around, and they kept shooting… and there were two of us. My friend is Brent Renaud, and they shot him and left him behind,” Arredondo told Italian journalist Annalisa Camillim, as he was being treated in a hospital bed.

“I don’t know. I saw that he had been shot in the neck. And we got separated,” Arredondo added after the journalist asked him about Renaud’s last moments.

Renaud was never married, and neither did he have any girlfriend.
