Josephine Ann Tewson was born on 26 February 1931 in Hampstead, London, England.
She was an English stage and television actress.

Tewson attended grammar before going to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She graduated in 1952. She started her acting career as a comedy performer alongside Ronnie Corbett and Ronnie Barker on the shows, David Frost, on Sunday and Hark at Barker.

Tewson then went on to appear on the BBC Radio Comedy program titled Mostly Monkhouse which featured David Jason and Bob Monkhouse who were the lead.

Tewson after starring alongside John Inman in Odd Man Out had been rumored to be his cousin due to the half-brother/half-sister role they play in the sitcom; she has denied it.

Tewson died at Denville Hall, a retirement home in London for actors, on 18 August 2022, aged 91.
