They defeated Zimbabwe by 1-0 on the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Thursday night to increase their advantage at the top of the table.
South Africa are three points ahead of Ghana, however, qualification isn’t guaranteed with the group winner due to be determined on Sunday.
A draw or win in Ghana will guarantee the Bafana Bafana place in the third-round play-offs. However, a Ghana victory will bring South Africa and Black Stars both end on 13 points. After that the goal difference will be decided the outcome based on FIFA rules.
But, a victory for Ghana will suffice to allow Ghana’s Black Stars to overtake the Bafana Bafana on the list according to the overall goals that they scored.
Both teams would have the same goal differential (+4) in the event that Ghana beat South Africa by one goal, however, the Black Stars will have more goals achieved (7 against 6).
If Ghana were to be able to win by more than two goals, it would be over South Africa without ever getting their calculators.
Ghana against South Africa will kick off at 7 p.m. local time at Cape Coast Stadium.
