2022 World Cup Qualifiers: Saudi-Based Winger Samuel Owusu To Start Against South Africa

Saudi Arabia-based winger Samuel Owusu is expected in the Black Stars 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa.

The Black Stars traveled to Johannesburg without seven players who played in Friday’s 1-0 win over Ethiopia at the Cape Coast Stadium.

Five – Jordan Ayew, Jeffrey Schlupp, Andy Yiadom, Baba Rahman and Daniel Amartey – are out due to Covid restrictions while Kamaldeen Sulemana and Daniel Kofi Kyereh has been recalled to their clubs in France and Germany respectively.

Their absence means coach Charles Akonnor will make changes to his starting lineup and one of players likely to get the nod is Owusu.

Owusu joined the Black Stars in 2019 and featured often since his debut against Benin at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Akonnor can trust on Owusu to play a leading role for Black Stars on Monday evening at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.
