Championship of African Nations (CHAN) debutant, Madagascar has come in for high praise from Ghana football legend Asamoah Gyan for its performance at this year’s competition.
Madagascar beat Ghana in their opening; a feat considered by many as a shock, before beating Sudan and Mozambique en route to the semifinals.
Senegal beat them in the semifinal and as a consequence, they will play Niger for a third-place finish on Friday.
Asamoah who has been in attendance at matches in the tournament has been left impressed by the performance of Madagascar.
He said in an interview that his home country Ghana had started the completion on a rather poor note but recovered well enough to beat Sudan in their second group match to reach the quarterfinals.
Ghana’s all-time leading scorer said that he was pleasantly surprised by Madagascar and Angola, adding that Algeria has also been incredible.
He added that there is a feeling that Algeria wants to win the tournament at home, and that the level of the competition is very high and it has recorded many surprises.
