90% Of Referees In Ghana Premier League Are Inexperienced – Henry Asante Twum

The director of communications at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Henry Asante Twum, has disclosed that about nine out of ten referees in the Ghana Premier League lack the needed experience.

This he said is attributed to the number 12 expose’ carried out by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, which says wiped out all the experienced referees.

Asante-Twum added that there are about six FIFA-accredited referees in the Division One League who are doing well, and so are given the chance to officiate in the Premier League.

He said that Ghana football has a long way to go because the laws of the game change very often. The FA spokesman disclosed that out of the 80 center referees, he can only mention fifteen off the top of his head who are FIFA referees.

This phenomenon according to him is putting a lot of stress on some of the referees, who have to go across the country to officiate matches. He said there are times when referees from the premier league are sent to Division One to officiate.
