Hiplife Is Dead; We Failed To Evolve – M.anifest

Ace Ghanaian rapper, Kwame Ametepee Tsikata, better known as M.anifest has asserted the Ghanaian music genre, Hiplife is dead as a result of a driving force to push it.

The rapper made the assertion in a new BBC documentary dubbed “Hiplife Rewind”. According to M.anifest, the youth who have the potential to push the genre want nothing to do with it hence the genre has been left to die.

“Hiplife is dead because the driving force of the music is the younger people and the younger people do not identify with Hiplife,” he explained.

Giving his reason for this, M.anifest added that the originators of the genre were too focused on keeping the genre as original as possible instead of allowing it to evolve.

“The originators of Hiplife were a bit too precious about what it should be so as new versions sonically were happening, you could hear people saying ‘oh, this jama, this azonto, is watered down, it’s not real,” he added.

He further explained that the only way for Hiplife to be reignited is if it is able to evolve into something the current generation can vibe with.
