An Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Dr. Tony Aubynn, has expressed his view on the phenomenon of low patronage of matches in the Ghana Premier League.
Dr. Aubynn in an interview with Joy News stated that the challenge of low match attendance is only prevalent in Accra and Kumasi and that the situation is different at other venues across the country.
He disagrees with the notion that the challenge of low match attendance is a nationwide challenge, stressing that there is no empirical evidence for such an assertion.
To prove that fans do attend matches, he cited Samreboi, Tarkwa, and Bechem as examples of venues where attendances are high.
According to Dr. Aubynn, the low match attendance in Accra and Kumasi is merely an optical illusion that has been blown out of proportion.
He stated that the phenomenon in the two cities does not reflect what goes on in order parts of the country.
