George Afriyie, a former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has waded into the conversation on why midfielder Thomas Partey’s performance is better for his club side than the national team.
He attributed the Gunners star’s below-par performances for the Black Stars to a number of factors but said the major reason is that has in the past not been played in the right position for the national team.
Mr. Afriyie posited that it’s a combination of factors and when one compares Partey to Michael Essien in a Ghana jersey one would realize that what we saw Michael [Essien] do at Chelsea was not the same as he did for the Black Stars but he delivered when it mattered most and that is why he is loved by all.
He sighted Ghana’s game against Congo in Brazzaville where Partey was Partey was pushed up front in more of a No.8 or No.10 position and he scored 3 goals.
The football administrator told 3Sports that it depends on how a coach wants to parade his players and also on the set of players he brings around him.
He added it is the way we position him and the roles we assign him and also stressed that Partey has always had the desire and shown commitment that he wants to play for Ghana.
