Elena Kagan was born on April 28, 1960. She is an associate justice in the US Supreme Court office since August 7, 2010, after being nominated by President Barack Obama in May of 2010. Kagan is the fourth female justice to join the Court.
Kagan was brought to New York City, where she was born. She completed her undergraduate education at Princeton University.
She later graduated with a masters degree from Worcester College, Oxford, and Harvard Law School.
She worked as a law clerk for Justice Thurgood Marshall of the Supreme Court and a judge on the federal Court of Appeals.
Elena left her position as a professor at the University of Chicago Law School to work as an associate White House Counsel and then as a policy advisor to President Bill Clinton.
