Hearts of Oak took a 1-0 lead over Wydad Athletic Club at the CAFC Champions League first-round qualifying match in Accra due to a stunning first-half goal scored by striker Isaac Mensah.
After a grueling initial half-hour, during where the Phobians were continually under attack from the Moroccans, Samuel Boadu’s side intensified their pressure in the final 10 minutes before halftime with a variety of exciting offensive moves.
Salifu got a great saving move of WAC goalkeeper Tagnatoui within a matter of seconds following Daniel Afriyie thought he should get a penalty for being dragged to the ground by Tagnatoui in the goal of WAC.
Hearts of Oak, on the other hand, didn’t take long to get a sting. Salifu’s inch-perfect cross from the left was met by a volley, which was taken from six yards away by Isaac Mensah, causing an unrest among the 2,000 official supporters in Accra Stadium.
The match ended with Hearts winning 1-0.
