CAF To Observe A Minute’s Silence In Memory Of Ghana Star Christian Atsu Before Opening Match

The Confederations of African Football (CAF) has announced that a minute’s silence will be observed in memory of Ghana star Christian Atsu before the opening match of the U20 AFCON later on Sunday.

Hosts Egypt will take on Mozambique in the opening match of the tournament.

In a statement released by the governing body on Sunday, CAF it will observe a moment of silence for the late Ghanian international, Christian Atsu, and victims of the earthquake tragedy in Turkey ahead of today’s TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2023 fixtures in Cairo.

The statement went on to reveal that Atsu representing his country 65 times, passed away during the tragic earthquake that hit Turkey.

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe and African Football Family convey heartfelt condolences to the Atsu family and the people of Turkey during this difficult moment, the statement further stated.

The first match of the U20 AFCON starting today will kick off at 14h00 GMT.
