Ghana’s finance minister Ken Ofori Atta has advised new graduates from Accra University of Professional Studies (UPSA) to establish their own company.
As per his assessment, federal payroll is already full. Therefore, the addition of more people to the already crowded public sector payroll is insufficient.
“Most people look for a job from government or state institutions, but that payroll is full. I can tell you that because we are spending about 60 percent of our revenue on remunerating some 650,000 people, and that is not sustainable,” he said.
Ofori Atta further indicated that having an entrepreneurial mindset is essential to ensure the sustainability of young people, especially graduates, as it provides the chance to make money.
He also said that it is crucial for graduates to recognize the benefits of completing four years of higher education, and strive to make a difference in the world by transforming and renewing of their minds through the entrepreneurship.
