John Hardin Stearns was an American professional baseball catcher and coach who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies.
Born on 21 August 1951 in Denver, Colorado, he played only one game for the Phillies before moving to the Mets.
Stearns who was nicknamed the ” Bad Dude” played collegiate baseball at the University of Colorado at Boulder where he was a two-sport star having played football too.
Injuries blighted his career which led to his retirement in 1986. In 1989, he returned to baseball when he was hired by the Milwaukee Brewers as a scout and minor league instructor.
Stearns went on to work with Toronto Blue Jays, Cincinnati Reds, and New York Mets among others.
