Jonathan Abbey Pobi, a renowned football administrator says he does not understand the reasoning behind Kwesi Appiah’s decision to apply for the Black Stars coaching role.
Kwesi Appiah who has already had two stints as the head coach of the Ghana senior men’s football team confirmed earlier in the month that he has applied for the job.
He was at the helm of affairs when Ghana featured at the 2014 FIFA Men’s World in Brazil and the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) which was held in Egypt.
Coach Appiah was relieved of his duties upon the expiration of his contract in 2020.
Abbey Pobi who is at loss concerning Kwesi Appiah’s decision insists that the elements which hindered his delivery of duties with the national team still persist.
He told Citi Sports that because Appiah had mentioned some names in his memoir, he does not think it is prudent for him to have applied for the job when he knows too well that those people are still at the GFA.
The Black Stars will begin their qualifying campaign for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in March and it is expected that the Ghana Football Association will name a substantive head coach before then.
