Ghana’s record goalscorer and former captain Asamoah Gyan has questioned former Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah and apologized to him after stripping him of the Black Stars captaincy if the latter believes it was the right decision taken.
Asamoah Gyan was stripped of the Black Stars’ captaincy by Kwasi Appiah ahead of the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt and Andre Dede Ayew was named as the new captain.
The former Sunderland striker did not take the decision lightly and consequently announced his retirement from the Black Stars but was advised to rescind his decision by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo.
He was named in the tournament squad as general captain. In a recent interview on Dan Kweku Yeboah TV, former Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah revealed that he took the right decision.
Asamoah Gyan who disagrees with Kwasi Appiah also said on the same media platform that if the coach thought his decision was right at the time, why would he call him to apologize.
He revealed both his and Kwasi Appiah’s teams met at Holiday Inn where the coach rendered an apology to him.
Gyan feels that the timing of his demotion was wrong and things could have been done better. He said he made his feelings known to the coach and even asked that he is left out of the squad.
