Tione Jayden Merritt, known professionally as Lil Tjay, is an American rapper and singer who was born on April 30, 2001, in The Bronx, New York, United States.
Tjay signed to Columbia Records after he rose to prominence in 2018 with his song “Resume.”
His stage name is derived from the first letter of his first name and the first three letters of his middle name.
Tjay released his debut studio album, True 2 Myself, in 2019, and released the mixtape State of Emergency that features only drill artists from New York City the following year.
True 2 Myself debuted at number 5 on the Billboard 200, marking the album his first charted release.
Destined 2 Win, his second studio album, was released in 2021 and included the single “Calling My Phone”, a collaboration with American singer 6lack, his highest-charting song yet.

Tjay was born to Ghanaian parents. He was raised by a single mother and had two younger siblings in what was described as a “roomy” apartment.
The rapper called himself the problematic child out of the three, as he would often get himself into petty robberies and school fights.
Tjay was arrested at the age of 15 for one of his robberies and was sentenced for a year to a youth detention center where he would begin to write raps; they included one of his hit songs “Resume”, which he released on SoundCloud.
Tjay does not have a wife, as he is not yet married. He does not have children as well.
However, he’s in a relationship, he is currently dating Lala Baptiste, a social media influencer, more specifically, an Instagram model, and now she is working on her YouTube channel.
Lala Baptiste has over 1.1 million followers on Instagram with the username @lalatheislandgal.
Baptiste does not only model on the photo and video sharing platform, but she has established herself as an entrepreneur as well.
Baptiste shares her own clothing line, “Nyela Collection.” The tagline of the company suggests her original clothing line is “Luxury Resort Wear with a Sexy Twist.”
