Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Friday announced that he has suspended his campaigns ahead of the 2023 elections with immediate effect.
Reports of Makinde’s campaign suspension come only a few hours after protests erupted in Ibadan over the of new naira notes and petroleum.
Makinde said the reason for the suspension of his campaign activities is over the unending fuel and new naira-note crisis.
He said that he suspended his campaign in solidarity with the people over the anti-people economic policies of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government.
The suspension was confirmed in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, in Oyo, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun.
In the statement, Mr. Olatubosun said that as a mark of honor to the citizens and residents of Oyo State, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde has directed that all campaign activities of the party at all levels be suspended until notice is given otherwise.
