Mario Draghi is an economist, scholar, banker, and government official from Italy. He held the position of President of the European Central Bank from 2011 to 2019 before being appointed Prime Minister.
In addition, Draghi served as Governor of the Bank of Italy from 2006 to 2011 and as Chair of the Financial Stability Board from 2009 to 2011.
Draghi spent most of the 1980s working for the World Bank in Washington, D.C., following a protracted career as an academic economist in Italy. In 1991, Draghi made a return to Rome to take the position of Director General of the Italian Treasury.
He was appointed as the Governor of the Bank of Italy in 2006. Since February 2021, Mario Draghi OMRI has been Italy’s prime minister.
