The Canadian tennis player, Rebecca Catherine Marino attained a WTA singles rating of 38 on July 11, 2011, which was her highest ever. In 2010 and 2011, Tennis Canada again recognized Marino as Female Player of the Year.
Her decision to stop playing tennis permanently was made in late February 2013. She joined the University of British Columbia’s rowing squad while taking a vacation from work to study English literature there.
Additionally, she was a licensed Club Pro 1 coach at the UBC Tennis Center. Marino declared in October 2017 that she planned to compete again, but the ITF’s administrative rules prevented her from competing right away.
She won the championship in her first tournament back, a $15k in Antalya, after becoming able to play again at the end of January 2018.
The daughter of Joe Marino, proprietor of the construction company Marino General Contracting, and Catherine Hungerford, Rebecca Marino was born in Toronto. Before her second birthday, the family relocated to Vancouver. Rebecca’s father was an Italian by descent.
