Born on March 30, 1950, in Rutherglen, United Kingdom, Anthony Robert McMillan OBE, known professionally as Robbie Coltrane, was a Scottish actor, comedian, and writer.

Coltrane gained worldwide recognition as Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter film series, and as Valentin Dmitrovich Zukovsky.

Coltrane passed away on October 14, 2022, at a hospital in Larbert, Scotland, at the age of 72.

His mother Jean Ross Howie was a teacher and pianist and his father Ian Baxter McMillan was a general practitioner who also served as a forensic police surgeon.
